Here’s the boy, playing with the gigantic abacus at our local park. It’s too bad these things are more like a rattly instrument to me, or maybe I’d be teaching him how to multiply with it.
No, he’s not yet a math wiz or chess champion, but he is counting to ten, and it sounds like this: wun – twoo – fwee – foh – fie – cease – avan – eet – high – TEH! And then we all clap and laugh and jump around.
I’ve tried to take it up to 20, but he just gets this look on his face as if to say, ‘Dude, I got to ten, gimme a break.’
