I’ve always heard that it’s best to keep your kids in a crib for as long as possible, until they can climb out on their own. This makes sense really, since once they’re in there, they can’t do much damage, except perhaps on your ear drums.
So what would possess us to convert Tory’s crib into a ‘Big Bed,’ even though he’s never even attempted to climb out? Was it the hope that he’d start getting himself up in the morning, get a banana and turn on Curious George – leaving mom and dad to sleep? Maybe, but thus far we’re still getting him that banana. And turn on George.
I keep saying to him, ‘Tory, this is the remote. Here’s the button that turns on the TV. Over on the counter, there’s bananas. And here in the fridge, this is where you can get yourself some juice…’
I think we just thought it was time. Luckily it’s been so-far-so-good. For a couple of nights now, as well as afternoon naps, he stays put, sleeping as well as he did in a crib. Let’s hope it continues.
(Yes, we count ourselves very lucky).
